Barracuda Practice Cancellation Clarification

    Hello Bradshaw Farm Barracuda Families,

We hope you're doing well and excited for the end of the school year, the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday and the Barracuda swim season. We want to provide additional insight for canceling today’s practice as we've received a couple of questions.

On Saturday, May 21st, Bradshaw Farm had their opening pool party and several families’ children, mostly of elementary school age, experienced sickness (stomach issues, fever and rash) after the party. The following day, Sweetwater Pool Management Company was on site and tested the water’s chemistry and everything was found to be within the acceptable ranges. With the reports of illnesses in the children, the Cherokee County Board of Health (CCBH) was called out to test the pool and check the equipment on Monday. The pool’s chemical makeup was again found to be within the acceptable ranges and the equipment was found to be operating adequately. Just to ensure everything was safe for the residents and swim team, the Bradshaw Farm property management company asked the CCBH to run a full lab panel, which they returned to do on Tuesday. CCBH continued to convey the message that the pool was safe for use but suggested shocking the pool for an additional safety measure.

CCBH provided contact information for those who wanted to report their illness to the County. Those who did, were assigned to a Cherokee County Environmental Health representative. Out of an abundance of caution yet contrary to CCBH guidance, this representative suggested staying out of the water until after the pool was shocked. Based on this guidance and knowing the pool was going to be shocked Wednesday after practice, BF Barracudas decided to err on the side of caution and felt it prudent to cancel practice.

Our neighborhood property management company anticipates the pool being ready for use on Friday, May 27th, with approvals from the County and Sweetwater Pool Management Company. We will keep the swim team abreast of any changes.

We hope you enjoy the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, honoring those who have served our country with family, friends, and community. We look forward to gathering

on Tuesday, May 31st for practice and the Fun Meet. If you haven’t yet, please go ahead and declare your swimmer (which can be done on the SwimTopia website). More information to follow.

    Sincerely,

    Carla, Kari and Sarah
