Dylan Villhauer and Josh Butler were among the standouts when the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association held its Summer Swim League State Championships over the weekend at the Cumming Aquatic Center.

Villhauer, a student at Etowah and member of the Chattahoochee Gold Swim Club, captured the 18-and-under boys title in the 50-meter freestyle (22.59 seconds) and 50 butterfly (23.91). Meanwhile, Butler, who attends River Ridge, finished second to Villhauer in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.76 seconds and went on to win the title in the 50 backstroke (26.11).

Butler also teamed with Daniel Gordon, Sean Hackaday and Villhauer to take third in the medley relay with a time of 1:47.06.

The local high school standouts weren’t the only ones to place at the state championship.

In the boys 14U division, Garrett Dempsey placed second in the 50 butterfly (26.57), ahead of Thaddeus Palmer, who was sixth (28.48)

In boys 10U, Grant Davis reached the podium twice, placing eighth in both the 50 freestyle (29.43) and 100 individual medley (1:18.16). Jacob Herbert also placed in the 10U division, when he finished seventh in the 25 breaststroke (18.87).

Clint Schuler took fourth in the 8U 50 free (34.78)

In the girls competition, Laurel Blase finished sixth in 10U freestyle with a time of 14.59. Also medaling was Ansley Davis, who finished fifth in the 14U 50 backstroke (30.28), and Tristian Barber, who finished sixth in 8U 25 backstroke (20.81).
